UC Davis Stores Award

Frequently Asked Questions

STUDENTS HELPING STUDENTS AWARD

The We Are Aggie Pride program was created by UC Davis students to help their fellow students through a crisis. The awards are meant to cover short-term needs that are not covered by other assistance. Some examples of need may be for food, rent, gas, or other necessities that may hamper a student from succeeding academically or from meeting her or his basic needs. The awards come from donations by students, alumni and others to the Students Helping Students fund.

The specific criteria to apply:

  • Must be a registered undergraduate student currently attending UC Davis
  • Must have a FAFSA or DREAM Act application on file
  • Must not have already received an award from this program in the same academic year
  • Must not have any unused financial aid offers (from the University) outstanding, including loan offers

Awards from the fund are disbursed through an application and review process led by a committee of students advised by staff who are experienced with financial aid and philanthropic management.

Applications are reviewed in the context of the immediate need stated by the applicant in relation to his or her records on financial need and other financial aid awards held by the financial aid office.  The award committee may also review UC Davis academic records. Applicants are expected to explain their circumstance in the application form, and may be asked follow-up questions by the committee.

Application and award information is kept entirely confidential. These awards are not loans and do not need to be paid back—they exist through the generosity and caring of UC Davis students and other donors. However, please be aware an award recipient’s status might change depending on an audit of their financial aid.

Please note we only accept applications during the academic year and not during Summer Sessions for the Students Helping Students Award.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: When will I hear back about my award application?

A: For the Students Helping Students Award, we try to respond to your application within two weeks, depending on the urgency of the situation. If you have not heard back from us within this time, there may have been an error in receiving your application. Please contact us at weareaggiepride@ucdavis.edu or resubmit your application. If we require more information from you, it may delay the total processing time.

For the UC Davis Stores Award, applications are reviewed in a batch immediately after the application period closes. When all the funds have been awarded, we will then contact all our applicants about the status of their application. If you do not hear from us at all, you may have submitted an application outside of our open application period times, and therefore your application was not reviewed. Please be aware of these application periods to expedite the review process of your application.

Q: How do I redeem my UC Davis Stores Award from my financial aid account?

A: The UC Davis Stores Award is a credit-based program. It cannot be redeemed in cash. You may only use your award at the UC Davis Bookstore to purchase the required course materials shown on your course syllabus. Please refer to the UC Davis Stores Award application for specific details on how to redeem your award.

Q: If I didn’t use up all my money from the UC Davis Stores Award, will it roll over to the following quarter?

A: No, the UC Davis Stores Award is a quarterly award, and the funds granted to you may only be used in that specific quarter. Unused credits will be withdrawn from your account so your financial aid account can be corrected.

Q: Does We Are Aggie Pride provide long-term financial relief?

A: No, our awards only provide emergency short-term financial relief. We expect the entirety of the award to be used toward any outstanding emergency need.

Q: How many students are awarded per term?

A: Decisions for the Students Helping Students Award are released on a rolling basis, while the UC Davis Stores Award is a first-come, first-served award, and the results are released within a week after the application period closes. For both of the awards, there is no guarantee of how many students are awarded per term; the number of awards given to students depend on the amount of funds available.
